Museum Assistant (3 positions)
May 24 – August 31, 2021
The Dartmouth Heritage Museum Society collects, preserves, interprets, promotes, and makes accessible the cultural material of Dartmouth and vicinity. We operate the museum from two historic houses from two different time periods (1785 & 1867). We also manage a large warehouse with a collection consisting of a vast range of artifacts and archives.
The ideal candidate will be a graduate or enrolled in a Museum Studies or History program but other hertage related programs will be considered. They should have excellent research skills; attention to detail; good handwriting; a good work ethic; ability to meet deadlines and be comfortable working with a variety of hand and power tools. The candidate should also posses excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills; be knowledgeable about local history and enjoy working independently or in a team environment. The candidate should be able to lift 30 lbs unassisted. Experience working in a museum setting and knowledge of artifact handling is considered an asset. The position will be advertised on the Dartmouth Heritage Museum website and on government and academic job boards in the region. The interview panel will consist of the Manager-Curator, the Collections Manager and/or a member of the Dartmouth Heritage Museum Society Board.
Rate: $14/ hour. 35 hours/week
