A Wonderful Reception

Thank you to all who attended our Halifax Explosion 100th Anniversary reception on Wednesday. It was a wet day, but that didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s spirits. We appreciate all those who ventured out for our event and for the other memorial events around the city.

We were honoured to meet and speak with Sadie Graham, a survivor of the Halifax Explosion. She was presented with a medal from the Dartmouth Historical Association. We also played host to Rex Baker and his family. They travelled all the way from Busselton, Australia to be in Dartmouth and Halifax for the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion. Rex’s father was Frank Baker, a member of the British Royal Navy who served on the HMCS Acadia and was in Halifax during the explosion. Frank recorded what he experienced in a diary that we are fortunate to have on display in our Explosion! exhibit.

It was a delight for us to have these and other distinguished guests at Evergreen House.

We hope the reception gave everyone an opportunity to get some solace from the rain, meet other community members, and have a moment to reflect on the significance of the day.
